CLASS DESCRIPTION & DRESS CODE

CREATIVE MOVEMENT

This style of dance is for our young dancers (ages 2-5)  who want to express their independence without the assistance of mom or dad. Dancers will have fun learning pre-ballet movement to popular children's music through singing and movement games. Creative movement will encourage self discipline, self-confidence while incorporating coordination, rhythm and basic dance steps. Props such as pom pons, hula hoops, parachutes and bean bags are used to enhance the learning experience. Class sizes are kept very small to assure plenty of individual attention for our youngest dancers. Dress Code: Hair tied back and away from face, pink leather ballet shoes, leotard and tights.

 

 

 

BALLET & POINTE

Ballet classes are offered from a beginner level to advanced. Students are taught proper body placement, body alignment, barre and center floor work, along with across the floor combinations. Beginner classes introduce vocabulary, proper alignment, and classical ballet technique. Advanced classes include adagio and allegro work, and combinations using balance, strength, and style.  All students are urged to study ballet, as it is the foundation of all other dance styles and facilitates further success in these disciplines. In addition Pointe is offered, Instructor placement is required for this class. Dress Code: Pink Ballet Shoes with a full sole any brand, black leotard, pink tights, hair in a slick bun.

 

 

 

JAZZ

Jazz class will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz such as Broadway, Street and Contemporary to help develop a well rounded dancer. Class curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with traditional jazz movement and includes a proper warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations. As students progress through each level curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate. 

 

 

TAP

Tap classes are designed to develop rhythm, style and sound. Students will learn a variety of tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm tap. Exercises focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement. The class emphasis is on developing proper tap technique, producing clear tap sounds, and having fun. As students progress through each level curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate. Dress Code: Black Capezio with teletone taps for advanced dancers beginners may wear any brand. Although we do not recommend a split sole tap shoe as it is a danger to feet and ankles. 

 

 

 

HIP HOP

Hip hop is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking. Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements. Hip hop dance requires students to have the strength and stamina to successfully perform moves. Therefore class includes upper and lower body conditioning as well as a rigorous warm-up to help prepare students for more intense movements. Dress Code: Sneakers that are not worn outside. For recital your teacher will giver you shoe specifications. Activewear that helps the dancer feel the style such as loose sweat pants. 

 

 

 

 

LYRICAL

Lyrical class is designed for  students with current or previous training in ballet. Students will explore partnering and weight sharing exercises combined with basic techniques and skills from ballet, jazz and modern. It emphasizes interpretation of music lyrics while telling a story with movement that can be fluid or abstract. As students progress through each level curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate. 

 

 

POM

A style seen performed by high school dance teams. Pom is a class designed to introduce dancers to the basics of proper jazz dance technique while including the sharp synchronized movements and visual effects of working with pom poms! For those students looking towards trying out for for their high school dance team, this class translates into these competitive performance styles. Class curriculum will include a proper warm-up and stretches, jazz, kickline, turn, leap, jump and Pom technique with concentration on complete and correct execution of motions. We will create fun, high energized Pom routines. 

 

 

ACRO

Learn the basics or work on advancing your skills in this flexible Acro class! Acro is not the typical tumbling or gymnastics class. Our experienced acro instructor will guide the class towards increased flexibility, balance, strength, muscle control, discipline and concentration. This class will focus on fundamental acrobatic technique, teaching such skills as handstands, chin stands, elbow stands, cartwheels, back bends, walkovers, balance and contortion tricks, all each student's individual level of experience. And it's fun, too! Dress Code: Bare feet and tight fitting clothes.
